Folks ; as my E36 is now 9 years old, my mates reckon not worth getting serviced at a BM dealer due to cost,I agreed (little detail of service history) , so got a 12k service done at local garage, but 1 thing I wondered - cambelt change, is there a recommended mileage for this to be done - mine on 71K miles now - thanks in advance
I'm a bit confused If it's a 323i it's an M52 which is chain driven the only belt driven motor used in an E36 is the M40 B16/18 the cam belt service interval for these is 2400miles or 4 years Sorry can't do in km I'm a Brit

If you have a 323, you have a cam chain. I don't what the interval is, but, it's a much longer time than a belt. I have 132,000 miles and no chain troubles yet.

There are no set service intervals for the cam chain.
Most oftenly they last a cars lifetime. But if it breaks your fucked so checking it sometimes isn't a bad idea.
