California emissions testing question

Does anyone have any experience with “importing” a car to California? I am about to buy an ’04 or ’05 330Ci and am going to give my 1994 325is to my San Francisco based son. The Illinois car has a Borla exhaust (standard cat – 81,000 miles), K & N cone air filter and Jim Conforti chip.

Anyone have a clue as to what’s gonna happen when he has it tested for emissions?

Where in Illinois do you live? I live in st louis, MO and am extremely jealous of the no emission laws of illinois. Actually MO jsut passed no emission testing laws for pre96 cars. Just a bummer I sitll register my car in California.
