So I bought a CAI, a "true" one and not a ram/short air. When installed it asked me to do two things that I wasn't quite fond off but it really can't my car in any ways. First of all, it said that I sould remove one of my horns to make room. So I did and now it sounds like a honda. Secondly, I had to make a hole in the plastic cuppler so that I can put my air sensor in it. I haven't done that yet since I just don't want to do it. (It was recommended if you live in cold area which I don't) Anyone encounter problems like mine or any other that came along later? How about some pics of yours? I'll try to get mine up when I can.
Thanks
My CAI instructions were to relocate the horns so that the cone air filter can be put there. This plastic thing you're talking about.. that's the sensor right? I have mine put into my pipe that leads to the air filter... I dunno how else to describe it... good luck
It's talking about the temp sensor in the airbox normally. Not the outside air temp sensor. Take the braket for the horn and mount it with the cruise control (if you don't have cruise control it's the bracket the airbox used to be attached to.
Kevin
P.S. If you need pictures let me know.

Whew, that's great to know that I'm not the only one that encounter this little problem. Please post any pics of your horn and the temp sensor so that I can have an idea as to where it can go. By the way, I didn't have to take the horn out, its just that I wasn't sure what's the best place to put it. I know I made it seems like I bought a POS but its great, the only problems is just the instructions were a little vague. (ie, "the horn has to be removed in order to place it in but find the place for it yourself" or so. )
Yup the horn (low tone horn that's why it sounds like a honda because you've left only the high tone in ) has to be relocated. I didn't do a CAI but I did relocate my horn. Here's a picture of where to put it if you've still got the bracket attached.
Kevin
In yellow are the mounting points for the airbox/ cruise control. In red is my horn that I relocated, just use the mount that you torn out from down below. The temp probe is the one that goes into the back of the airbox. You removed it when you took out the airbox.

one of these days I'll have had it with stupid people in traffic and install one of those siren/airhorn/some-other-horn thing in the spot for the euro battery.

The temp probe in the back of the airbox should have a nice little hole in the CAI you've gotten. If it doesn't you can make one, or just leave it zip-tied against the CAI.
Kevin
P.S. Do you have any pictures or links to your CAI you bought?

I bought it off this guy who happens to sell it on another BMW forum (bimmerforums.com) It may seems suspicious but he has been selling it for quite some time and rarely, if not any, has any complaints on it. And he only makes/sell CAI to E36 BMW's only, so I'm sure he knows what he's selling or making. I don't remember his screen name but his real name is Jerry Crabtree. I guess you could find him on the other forum. I don't have any pictures yet because I lent my camera to a freind.
at any rate you might not have the little hole to put the sensor. Just zip tie it out of the way you'll be fine unless it gets really cold where you're at.

I live in Arizona and it there's two types of weather. Dang hot, or slightly cool/warm. So I shouldn't worry about the temp sensor then? Also, why does it matter when its cold, doesn't the engine bay gets ABOUT the same temp as any other times anyways?
Yeah, I realize you're in AZ now. What it does is circulates coolant through the throttle body to warm up the fuel and keep things from freezing. You can confirm this by trying to take the sensor apart and finding coolant in it. Don't take it apart. Just zip tie it out of the way somewhere. The end. Did you get a CAI that goes into the brake duct? or just a short ram one?
