im curious about something, ive heard a lot of cars that have a CAI that seem to "whistle" or "woosh" when you step on it almost like a turbo spooling up, it sounds awesome, is there a specific cone or design that will do that? the intake on the jetta and my old 325 had a really nice growl sound to them, but not wooshing/whistling sound to it? this make any sense? any help would be appreciated...also, sorry if i posted this in the wrong place
thanks!
edit: now that i think about it, it may be a vacuum leak on some of them, but i have heard that "spooling" sound on other friends cars, but no vacuum leak

the reason that it makes that "woosh" sound (i believe, dont quote me on this lol) is because you no longer have that big intake box there, you just have a single pipe going striaght to your trottle body. Now your throttle body has a butterfly valve in it. and when it opens full throttle (for mine its around 3000rpms) you can start to hear the air.
it might also be the blowoff of the air. i know thats why it makes that noise with turbos (hints the need of a blow off vavle) and it might be the same for this just not at the same extent. but im sure my first theory is corret.
the reason you dont hear it on other cars just might be because its a diffrent car. all cars are not created equally
This is not related to the sound but fits in the subject so instead of creating a new thread for nothing... AFE says the CAI can add up to 42hp, im not very familiar with tuning but I find it very hard to believe an CAI can give that much kick. Am I wrong? here is the link: https://www.shopatron.com/product/pr...54-10171/534.0

Hell No! I call complete B.S. on that. A CAI by itself can not add 42hp and 32ft-lbs to your car. My K&N says it adds like 12-18hp at the crank.

So what is better, debaffled box with k&n/AMSOil air filter or Cosmo Racing CAI? Performance wise I have read different opinions some saying you gain power with debaffled box some say you only get a better sound. Or say i get the pipe from Cosmo and add AMSOil filter.
