Buzzing noise from the air cond. / stereo area

Hi everyone,

I can hear a buzzing noise which sound like 'rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....' (sounds like an old & rusty fan kinda noise) coming from the air cond. / stereo area.

The sounds start right after I started the engine.. and it will only stop after 3-5 minutes after I turn off the engine. I've tried starting the engine with the air cond or with the stereo off but the noise is still there. It's reaaaaallyyy annoying...

Any clue what cause that ? Will it be hard & expensive to fix it ??

There are a number of little servo motors sitting behind the dash which direct airflow in the airconditioning system which may be the cause of your rrrrrrrrrrrr sound. They are hard to get to but you could try disconnecting these one at a time to see if the noise goes away. From memory there is one on the right side and two on the left. Mine's rhd so I dont know if this would differ for a lhd. One of my servo motors snapped the locking tag and pops out of its mount every so often. The servo motors are about 4cm in diameter and have a small electrical connector.

I notice this buzzing noise when I shut the car down...

I've never stuck around to see how long it lasts, but it's gone when I get back in to go again....

Yeah, mine does that too! I notice it when I turn the car off because there is silence, and yet you can hear this slight buzzing sound.

at least now i can get some ideas on what cause the prob. :-).
I might bring it to auto electrical to fix it though.. as i'm still a virgin at doing this kind of stuff.. :P

Just a suggestion, as I'm not quite BMW fluent yet, but try hitting the intake and vents with some compressed air. My friends e30 had this problem, and it was caused by a small leaf/stick that had fallen in and whirring around.

This could be totally off, but I just wanted to throw that out there.
