well i changed my rear trailing bushings (which are connected to the frame) and now it's better (sorta). My car stopped having that rear steering effect when driving through potholes, but it still feels rough when driving through mild potholes or bumps. I changed the shocks put no improvement. Does my car have more suspension bushings in the rear? Exactly how many bushings hold the entire suspension? or what else should i do to improve the overall road feel in my car?

Urathane would make the ride rougher, would it not? since it's a harder material and would allow for much less forgiveness (great for track use)
Check your rear shock mounts, you can uprgade to the E46 convertable ones which are much beefier and wont fail anytime soon. Fix up your front suspinsion. (LCA bushing helps out a lot, they go bad frequently on E36, replace it with M3 bushings)
Now, just to throw out some possible fixes to do, What about the subframe bushings? What do those do again? (they are a PAIN to replace I remember overhearing)
Urethane shock mounts won't make the rear suspension much stiffer. It simply eliminates play when you corner hard or hit hard bumps. Stock rubber shock mounts suck, they need to be replaced way too often. I would get Urethane ones for sure.
