I have an e36 and i was goin home and i took this one turn that i always take pretty fast, but i didnt touch the brakes. After i cleared the turn the light cam on (its the one with the circle and three dashes on eather side). The other wierd thing is that the screachers (things that sound like you forgot to put brake pads in) arent making noise...and sometimes the light goes out.
you could take the driverside front tire and the passenger side rear tire off and look at the pads to see if they still have any meat left on them. There's a big ehough hole on the top of the caliper that allows you to visually check pad thickness.
If they've got more than an 1/8" left, it could be a faulty sensor on one of the two wheels. It's just a ceramic disk, it's possible it might be starting to crack.
