Hey guys, my brake lights work when ever they want. Sometimes I start the car and the inboard computer shows the warning about the brake lights, if I turn off the car and start it again, the brake lights start working again and the computer doesnt show the warning anymore. Sometimes, they can keep on working till I get where I'm going or while driving the warning turns back on and the brake lights stop working. The bulb lights are ok and it makes contact perfectly. Now, a friend told me it might be the sensor that's in the brake pedal or one of the wires that is loose. Does anybody have an idea what it my be?
your brake switch might be dying. My brake lights were working when they felt like it, changed the brake switch and everything is working fine now. Its cheap and easy to change.

My E36 M3 does the same. I've checked the switch and it makes and breaks with each stroke of the pedal. I bought new sockets for both bulbs and new bulbs with stainless steel metal parts. The computer has show the error once or twice since I did the change. I don't think it has done it in over 3 months now. I bought the switch and it's still in the package.

It does not matter, the slightest break in continuity will trip the computer showing an error......actually my brake lights were all working fine, but the worn brake switch was causing the error message every so often when I applied & released the brake pedal, so I just changed the switch & never had the problem again.....
