Just bought this 96 last week and it came with a wonderful brake light problem. The brake lights don't work except for the one in the window. The brake switch on the pedal is working (tested it with a voltmeter). Even tried replacing all the bulbs but nothing. Could it be the check control module? Where is it located on this car? Thanks a bunch!
Check the wiring harness in the trunk, driver's side trunk hinge....common e36 problem, wires constantly bending eventually break......just pull back rubber boot & check them.
I found some starting to break on mine........
also may want to check, a while back i had a brake light go out on be and it was actually the brake light its self that was bad, the terminal which you turn the bulb into was fried on mine. Also, if it looks all gunked up some electrical terminal cleaner might be worth a shot to clean it up and try again...
