Brake Lights

The brake lights on my bimmber are not working. i know the bulbs still work because if im lucky the brake lights go on... but 99% of the time it wont go on when i press on the brakes... any ideas ?

You could try checking the condition of the thin metal backing plate on your light cluster. When you insert the bulb and twist, the contacts of the bulb touch this plate to make the electrical connection. If this plate is worn where the bulb contacts touch, you will not get a proper connection. Even though your bulbs should be working the lights will not work. You'll need a new plate/light cluster.

Have u tried testin the brake light switch??? (half way up the brake pedal, especially if its both lights that arent workin) See if its showing open circuit when it should be closed... Worked for me wen my lights packed up...

1 other thing, u may have dun this already, but check the 2 pins on the metal cap of the bulb. BMW genuine bulbs have offset pins, aftermarket 1's have symmetrical 1's and won't work correctly wen fitted...
