Hey everyone,

I have a 96 318ti with brake light issues. With the lights off, the bottom left brake light does not come on. When my lights are on, the bottom left and right brake lights do not get brighter. The supplementary top brake light works fine. I checked the fuse and found no problem and replaced bulbs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Bimmerboy75

I had similar, very confusing brake light issues that were resolved when I bought new bulb holders from a dealer. I have a '95 318i.

Thanks, Tom. I didn't think of doing that. I guess that will be my last resort.

Thanks again,

Check the contacts of the bulbs or the bulb holder and tail light. They ALWAYS get ditry and contact becomes poor causing dim lighting or simply they don't work.

Just sand off the dirt or corrosion and see if that helps.

I feel dumb. Thanks Autotechnica for the reminder. It looks like the bulbs were not placed correctly so the contacts were messed up.

Thanks everyone. Everything is working.
