Owner's manual doesn't have much information regarding the message. All bulbs are working fine. ANy indication as to what this might mean? Thanks in advance!
This is a very common problem on E36s... do a search on google.com "brake light circut failure" and you should get a few good sites that explain it.. the not place to look if by some chance you dont find much there.. is.. do a search on this forum.. I know there are atleast two forum topics about that circut failure...
I had the same problem this summer and was about to replace the switch under the dash. I decided to replace the brake light bulbs anyways. It turned out that I did have a bad bulb. I spent about $15 on bulbs, I would have spent about $40 on the switch.
Moral of the story, sometimes it's worth replacing the bulbs before replacing the brake light switch.

I had the same error this summer, and i replaced my tail lights, just cause i wanted different ones, and it didn't bother me again for like 3 weeks, but now it started up again, so now I am going to try fixxing that, but that I need to just go ahead and buy the part, any one know a online shop that sells it, I hate doing 40 miles to the dealer.
Since changing the brake light switch under the dash I have had no further problems. Majority of folks who do this seem to have similar results. Pelican Parts website has a DIY on how to do this.
