Brake Light Circuit Failure

ok so I just got this warning on my Check Control Screen, "Brake Light Circuit Failure" but the brake lights work great and the fuse is mint, it went off after I turned off the car then started again, but it came on a few starts later, whats wrong here

This is a common problem that in my short time on this forum has come up a number of times. The likely remedy is to replace the brake light switch, which entails removing the panel beneath the steering wheel and busting out the old brake light switch, and then replacing it. This is assuming that you've made sure the bulb sockets are in good contact with the circuit board on your taillights. I did this about 2-3 weeks ago.
If you do a search on this site you'll see that this is a common problem, and get all hte advice you need. Pelican Parts website has a photographed step by step of this.
I found it a bitch to do b/c I'm a big guy and it's a small space under there, but it's technically very easy.

Theres a DIY write up. Make sure you get the right circuit when you buy a new one. Pretty sure....

2-Prong = You have no cruise control.
4-Prong = You have cruise control.

sounds like a pain, but it doesn't seem to be doing it any more, so lets just hope it stops

It will probably never stop. The previous owner of my car advised me she had done many bulb changes as a result of this warning. I read about the brake switch problem, replaced the switch and haven't seen the OBC message again. Bite the bullet and change the switch. This is one of the cheapest BMW repairs out there.

its easy to fix with the swtich. 20min tops. unless your handicapped or get the wrong part.

or if you "accidently" break the wires and have to re-wire the harness....

alright not to bad actually after i read the DIY, thank for the info guys, i'll be trying it out early next week, i'll tell you how it goes
