My car did the same thing. I got the "brake light failure", "brake circuit failure" once or twice a day. I ordered the switch. Before it got to my house, some aftermarket lights I had ordered arrived. I installed the aftermarket lights and guess what? It's been over a month and there has been no " brake light" or "brake circuit " error on the OBC. Everything has been quiet. Might have been something wrong with my lights, don't know. And yes, my OEM lights worked every time I checked them, as do the new lights. I'm holding on to the switch, just in case.

It turns on your brake lights when you push on the brake pedal to stop. And if you have the OBC, it triggers the failure codes when a bulb or some other part is broken.

It is the Brake Switch. Cheap, a little difficult to remove, simple to install. I tore mine apart getting it out, just be sure not to bend the mounting bracket.

No. What it does is give you a false error code. You should, of course, check anytime you get the "brake light failure" or "brake circuit failure" codes. If the lights are working, then the switch is most likely faulty and giving false codes. There are four wires on the switch. Two are used to trigger the brake lights. And two are used to monitor the brake light system.
