BMW Transmission Light ??? - BMW Forum

Hi i have a 1998 BMW 323i and my transmission light goes on within driving 8 to 10 miles. When my light goes on, it doesnt go into limp mode. I can go through every gear. But when i stop the transmission bangs. Also when i accelerate with it on, it bangs changing from 2nd to 3rd gear. (my traction light also goes on) I also get a code P0505 which is mass air flow sensor which comes on occasionaly. Any ideas??

Is the oil level ok? How old is the oil?

Hi thanks for your response. I bought the car 3 years ago and i dont know ho old the fluid is. I do not know if it was ever changed but it has 130,000 miles on it. I recently had a problem with the transmission where when i would go down a hill, it would disengage. I checked the fluid and i had to add a quart and a half of fluid which fixed my problem. The fluid seems a little dark.

Hmmmm Ideally, it should be a clear/deepish red in colour, maybe a change is needed there buddy...
