Bmw Tie Rods

I wanted to replace my outer tie rods. I recently had it taken to a shop to replace the rack and pinion and they put the old tie rods on. I wanted to replace them with some new ones i bought but when i looked at them they look upside down. Not sure if there supposed to look like an l looking up or down. Usually when i replace the tie roda on my other cars they look like an L laying down and with the short end pointing up. The ones on my bimmer look like an L facing down with the short end pointing down. Excuse the lingo not really up to date on it. My question is which way should the outer tie rod end be pointing....up or down when installed? Thank you for your help.
