Well im getting a BMW in less than a year
ill have about
10 000$ canadian to spend, i think thats about $7300 US but im not positive
im looking for a car
not older than about 92 really and not 2 new because itll be more than 10000canadian

im looking for any model basically, manuel, something thats decently fast, atleast 160hp and something that i could do decent mods to without it ruining engine
exaust, and some other basic upgrades, 2 or 4 door doesnt matter much, and something that would last to atleast 200 000km, id prob get something used with 120 000
abit more or abit less

so give me some opinions on what model car and year you think would be good for me

thanks for your help

you may be able to find a 96 328 for that, but you are in the 92-95 325i category. 189 HP, 181 lbs/tq.

I just went through that buying process in Vancouver and cars here are expensive..
I saw the ones at the dealers 92-94 for around 10g and they were used up- painted etc.. lots of k's.. and I found mine for a good price.. good luck and drive a lot of em.. the first 318 i drove was awful and slow.. the one I bought was excellent.. I have records since brand new so that sold me on it as well..
I was told by a few people here spend the extra and get a 95 or newer..

fuel injection. 92 + for sure has it.. not an option..

I always wanted the coupe with the sport suspension- and got it.
Car sits one inch lower than stock and handles better.
They tell me here that my wheels are from a 325.

BMW E36 300 series Canadian model designations (92-99)
i = 4 door sports sedan
is = 2 door sports coupe
c = cabriole (convertible)

318 = 1.9 litre, 138hp, F.I. 4 cyl.
325 = 2.5 litre, 168hp, F.I. 6 cyl.
328 = 2.8 litre, 192hp, F.I. 6 cyl.

After looking for 3 months in Vancouver and Victoria, BC I decided on a "cream puff" 1996 318i. This car had 71000 kms, extremely clean and garaged. I bought from a dealer and was given the opportunity to talk with the previous owner before comitting to buying it. This car was within my price rang of under $14000 CDN.
Even though the 325's and 328's are smother engines and more powerful, there is NOTHING wrong with BMW's 4 cyl. In my opinion it is very smooth for a 1.9 and has enough power for anything you want to do on the highway ... even hitting 190km/h (when no police is around).
Also I found the 325's and 328's either abused from former owners or out of my price range ($17000 - $22000 CDN).

If you find a 92-99 (E36 BMW) in the BC area for $10000, do a bit of digging into it's history. I was not able to find a nice one for that price.

Good luck
