To each engine its own.... <--- read into that... Each engine is different..... any engine will last 500k if you keep it in perfect condition.

Search the forums.....

I've had one failed part on my entire engine... since she was born... water pump died... and that was at 156k miles. I've given her nothing but the best maintenance = my own hands.. no one else.

yah it is hard to say exactly how long an engine will last. each car is driven differently, through different kinds of weather etc. most of the time if the car isn't driven too hard and it has regular maintenance it seems that most of the people's cars on this forum have made it well over the 200k mark and running strong. i am not sure how much higher some of the members car's mileage is but id say that you could get at least 200k-300k miles out of your car if it has regular maintenance regularly, and not driven too hard.

my friend wants a 98 318 with 80k....does that sound to steep?

The best single thing you can do to increase engine life is to switch to Synthetic Oil.

Consider putting it in your transmission and diff too...
