BMW exhaust problems HELP

Ive got a 318is 1998 e36 coupe its on an R plate (UK)

Can anybody tell me the breakdown of the exhaust sections as ive got some rattling going on and i suspect its either the cat or mid silencer that has broken up.
This is a big problem as it bloks up the exhaust and stops the emissions causing severe loss of power.
The added problem is that ive seen the mid section advertised and is cheap to buy. Ive also been told that the mid section includes the cat and will cost nearly 200 quid!

I could just do with a clear answer from someone that knows the score.

Just do the easy thing!, drive it to an exhaust place and get them to check it over its free, they will soon tell you whats wrong, you dont have to get them to do it, just say you will be back later when you can afford it.

real oem is showing both a catted and non catted midpipe available for euro models. The expensive ones you see probably have a cat, and the cheaper ones probably don't. I'd go with whatever your setup is now.
