BMW 320i, German Spec

I have a 1992 BMW 320i German Spec vehicle. I went to start my vehicle and all I get is a sound like the starter is spinning, but not engaging. Anyone know if this is the starter or another problem?

When was the last time your batter was changed? I had a similar problem last year and it turned out that my battery had completely died overnight.

Maybe the starter solenoid has gone bad.

Engine turns

Update........

When I turn the ignition, the engine turns, but does not start. The fan is turning so this means the starter is doing it's job correct?

Yeah, I'd say the starter is doing fine. There would seem to be a fuel or ignition issue.
