Hi, Im new here at bimmerwerkz I just got a 1995 325is last night from smebody, and the a/c and heater is working, but the fan or the blower is not working. I never had a BMW before so I have no clue on fixing it. I live in Oregon so it rains a lot and cold weather, my windshield and windows fogs a lot and I cant see anything specially at night. please help me and tell me what you think is the problem. i turn the climate control but it doesn't do anything. the blower is not working. please help me. thank you so much in advance.
If its not the fuses the blower repair job on an e36 is about 6-8 hours. You have to tear apart the whole dash. Check the heater core while you're in there, its in the same place and they are a common failure point to. If its leaking at all, replace it at the same time.
This is a common problem with BMWs. I just fixed my 1997 328.
google. bmw blower repair diy or something like that and you will find some write ups on how to fix it.
You said climate control, so I'm assuming you have the computer climate control like my car. You need what is called a blower final stage unit. They are 80 to 100 dollars. It involves removing the driver side dash knee cover. Unhooking the old final stage unit and installing the new one. If you have never done it before, it's probably a 45 min job.
If you don't have the computer climate control then you need a blower resistor.
on my 1995 325is, I have the analog climate control. there are some knobs in it. not digital. so you guys think its the blower resistor? where is that located at? I tried to avoid taking it to the shop if can. they want $90 just to find what's really wrong with it. thank you guys, I really Appreciate all this
Mines the digital climate control, so I can say first hand. But it was the problem on my car and it is a common on problem on these cars, digital or analog.
People say the analog ones will sometimes work on high and no other setting when they go bad.
Why don't you pull it out and test it with an ohm meter.
Google for a write up on exactly where it is on your car. Mine was about a foot up and 6 inches to the right of where my my shin is when I'm sitting in the drivers seat.
The hardest part of doing the job is getting your body twisted just right so you can fit under the dash and see whats going on.
Mine is not working at all. it's not working at any settings. 1, 2, 3 & 4 the only thing thats happening is when I turn it on, you can hear and see the the blower fan vent is slowly opening, but the motor is not working.
i have the same problem on my 1996 328ic. digital control, all lights are lit up but no fan is running. fuses are fine. has anyone in here done this and can you give a step by step? it would be appreciated for us noobs.
I had the same problem in my 525i (digital). One day I turned on the defroster and nothing. I could feel heat radiating at the base of the dash. I took it in the the dealer. Blower motor resistor. If I had known it was that simple, I would have done it myself.
I would check the blower motor resistor before ripping out the entire dash.
fro, from what i have been reading... if you have a digital unit then you replace the FSU. if you have analog then you replace the blower resistor. i dont think they have both. can anyone chime in here if this is the case?
