I recently purchased a 99' 328is Coupe. I am wondering if this is an E36 or E46 type? Nothing in the manuals or paperwork from the dealer says so. I have heard rumors that there are 2 types of 328is coupes made that year. I know that on the steering wheel it has an (M) emblem at the bottom and on the sides of the door it shows the same emblems on the trim. This car is mint having only 80K on the mileage and I got it for 14,000. I guess some old man traded it in on a new one and kept it garaged.
Can someone help out a noobie so I can order some stuff for this car and make her the sheezy?

Thanks,
Mack

1999 should still be the E36, here is an autotrader listing of a 1999 with alot of pics.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?rdpa...p=y&cardist=884

If that looks like your car then it is an E36.

Yep...thats the one. I have the black paint job too. The ///M emblems...does that mean the performance package? And what is the difference? I am looking at doing some things to this car such as an air filter/intake system, Suspension, turbo, new lights, tires, rims, and anything else that might make it look sweet so if you guys have the same whip could you hook me up with some websites for parts? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Take Care,
Mack

I recently purchased a 99' 328is Coupe. I am wondering if this is an E36 or E46 type?

The sedan was changed to E46 in 1999. The Coupe and Convertible were changed to the E46 in 2000. So, if you have the Coupe, it should be an E36.

Hey...thanks guys. I cant wait to start doing some stuff to this car. Seems like the lights and stuff shouldnt be to hard. I was thinking of a body kit for it but then again I kind of like it the way it is. I've been looking all over the internet and there is a ton of stuff out there for this car alone. I will post some pics when I get some things done to her. She's all stock right now so It's not much to look at.

Ok here are some sites you can go to mod your car.

lighting - umnitza.com
performance - turnermotorsport.com, uuc.com, aatuning.com
general, maintenance - bavauto.com

Those are just some of the sites there are many more. You can find some stuff on ebay too, but be wary there is alot of junk out there too. I would limit my ebay.

If you look around the forums here there is alot of info. When I first joined I spent like 2 weeks just reading through old posts.

Also you say you have the ///M emblems on the steering wheel and the trim. My guess would be that someone has changed out your trim for the M3 style trim already.

That is one cosmetic thing that people commonly do. You will also see people changing out the front/rear bumper to M3 parts and mirrors too. Rear taillights are another thing. Body kits can look good or bad depending in my opinion. Check out the pic showroom and you will see some of our cars and what we have modded. Wheels and tires would be my first thing though.

Good Luck, and hope to see you around.

You say you bought it from an old man who let it sit in his garage? That's interesting that an old guy would deck his car out with M-series paraphernalia... is it in really good shape? You're sure it's not an M3, n'est pas?

I won't give my opinion on the body kit because I haven't seen the car... but if it's not an m3, all of that aftermarket stuff on top of the m3 sh*t seems a little over the top? I would probably leave most of it as it is (since it's not really stock if he put the m series stuff on it) so it doesn't look too riced out... and HEY! Stock is plenty to look at! It says, my car is so hot, I don't need to do a thing to it! But, that's just me...
