Hey.. Im new so Hi everyone

I have a 1993 316 with 155,000 on the clock. Last month a stupidly drove 30 miles back home with a faulty water pump.. and surprise surprise my car ended up coming to a halt.

I found out from a mechanic that I had fooked up 3 cyclinders and the pistons were literally welded on the inside.

So....

Just bought a used 316 engine the exact same spec and year.. all in very good condition with 75,000 miles.

Is the water pump built into the engine?

How much would it cost me to get someone to fit the engine?

I don't know a lot about the 1.6L bimmers, but i know a lot of people that will tell you to upgrade the impeller in the water pump to a metal one. hope that helps a bit.

it all depends on who you go to and what kind of quality you want...dealer will be expensive...to swap the engines, it could cost anywhere from $1500 to $3000 (USD)...not the cheapest of things to do...the waterpump is separate from the engine. Not too sure of where it is located on the 1.6L engine though

Im having it fitted for £250 which includes a service and change of Cambelt.. So im a happy bunny!

Hi, welcome to the forum!

You put £££ so I'm guessing you are a fellow Brit? Where did you find a garage that would fit a new engine for £250...Let me know how it goes too as I'm always interested in finding garages that can do stuff my mech wont touch like putting a 2.8 into my 1.8 (i'm trying to convince him it's a good idea still!)
