guys!!! ghead . i have a problem. in my 98 i have an 80 amp alternator. i need some feed back from the people that have the zkw's. i went to my dealership and asked about projector headlights and such, so i could have them adjusted (the right height) once i got them in. and the bmw mechanic said he was worried about the fact that the projectors might be taking alota juice from the battery/alternator and making it work even harder. there are 3 sizes or whatever of alternator. if anyone has time to go check that would be awesome. there is a sticker on the alternator and the number is above the BMW roundel (spell check) i had to use a mirror and a flashlight to check what i had. there supposidly is a 120 amp and a 140 amp. so feedback would be great!! either the people who are running zkws w/ the 80 amp or whatever. thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, ZKW's will draw a bit more current from your electrical system, but it's nothing to be concerned with. While upgrading to a larger alternator is a good idea, it certainly isn't necessary.
i guess that is what my main question is...over time will my alternator start to die out, cuz it is charging the bat all the time? what size do you have. that was my main question from the beginning too. who ever has zkw's what alternator size do u have/ thanx
Yes, over time your alternator will die out, but this is regardless of whether or not you add ZKW's. I'm almost positve I have a 90amp alternator (I will upgrade), and I have added an aftermarket amp, ZKW's, satelite radio...you get the idea.
all i know is ive chanded an alterntor out in my other car 2 years in a row! haha good thing i ditches the subs in the new car i coulkdnt stand those damn things anymore!
