Put it in first, wait for the light... or whatever, and hit the gas. Any other way and you'l mess up your transmission like I have. (EG: revving and dropping it into 1st... it immediately engages (after that silly delay) and torques everything...)
Are you talking about Steptronic? I don't have steptronic, mine's automatic but I have 'A/M' button next to my seat...I've heard don't use the manual mode as it's intended for one gear only and messes up your transmission. I could be wrong but I don't use it that much.
Yea i dont use that manual option either, hear its not good for the transmission, if would just put it in D3 which is sport mode, and turn off traction control, and maybe power break a little.
The manual option will not mess up your car. BMW doesn't include that option on their cars and then ask you not to use it. It is merely a sport mode. At absolute worse, it will only cause more wear and tear on the tranny resulting in a higher frequency of service. I had an automatic 5series with that option and used it all the time.
