Anyone know what the best types, kinds, or brands of paint and clearcoat finish? I'm going to have this guy do some paint work for me but I think I want to try and search for a good deal on paint first...and he'll just do the labor.

I work in a shop and have a degree in autobody repair.
I wouldnt advise using Sherman Williams, its cheap shitty paint and lacks quality UV protection.
I recommend any lines from BASF or PPG. They offer budge line paints to custom paints depending on where you wanna go with it. I spray BASF and they have a limco line which is a OEM paint quality and then theres Glasruit which is costly and very nice, has better then OEM quality paint that you can use for customization like kandys and such. Then theres Diamont which I dont use, they use a lot of universal products like hardeners, reducers and such..This allows you to save money when buying a full line for painting your car. If you want nice nice nice nice nice paint, like couple thousand in paint alone buy from Alsa or House of Kolor, those 2 are industry leaders in refinishing and you will not/cannot beat their quality. You can go to any jobber and find these paints. Let the guy who does your car help you in brand. He might be familiar with a certain brand and that will give you a better refinishing product.
I do custom paint painted helmets and have done a bunch of Harleys and various other brands.
I just put an M3 front end on recently.
I use House of Kolor exclusivly on the custom stuff, and I have been a big fan of Dupont chromabase and Chromaclear. it's very user friendly unlike PPG where you have to mix alot of things to the paint and clears to be ready to spray.
Dupont you just mix paint with basemaker in a 1 to 1 ratio. the clear is just as easy with a 4 to 1 ratio and you can also add a touch of reducer in the final topcoats for flow out.
