I was wondering since i am going to try to fix up my 318is a little and either purchase a more powerful bmw oe an audi. So i was wondering what you guys think is a better value for a bmw that gives you value for your money and has horsepower when you need it and also if you have owned an a4 before how do they compare to bmw's since i am going to be purchasing a bmw or an audi a4 latter this year and i need help in comparing them. I want a car that has some horsepower when you need it escipally low end power like from starting off a line when you are stopped at a red light and a "rice burner" pulls up next to you and think his car is kickin until you smoke it off the line so please help me decide. Also if you have any ideas that will help increase the value of my car please post it

You can get a 325 or a 328 for that sum (high miles). An a4 will cost more to maintain (not as DIY-friendly as the e36). A 325 may be your best bet, since it is easier to mod in order to increase your hp.

Exactly as drz328i said. My friend has an A4 and this car alot more difficult to DIY than a bimmer. For around $6K you can get a e36 body , 325 bimmer (1994-1996) with, lets say 90K-110K miles on it. It will be a good car (thats what I drive).

If snow is a big concern, then you may have to go with a Quattro. If you can afford an E46 325xi or 330xi, go for that. They are mainly RWD vehicles, but AWD kicks in when necessary. That gives you better performance than other manufacturer's AWDs, which behave more like a FWD when AWD is not necessary.

AWD cars can handle better than 2wd cars in wet or dry conditions, but it doesn't matter because they are over 2 1/2 the price he is looking at. I would look for a 325 5 speed with as low miles as you can find. For $6000 probably 110-120,000. I looked at A4s also before I got this and have always liked the BMW better.

That's basically what I was trying to say when he said his price range is 6k

I would get a 325i or 325is.

I knew it would be out of the $6000 price range. I just threw it out there because sometimes people have more money that they could spend on things like these if they will get what they want.

I again say that the BMW is a better buy. If RWD is such a concern, well, I'm sorry. Read around the forums, though. Many people do fairly well with their 3ers in some cold places.
