My auxillary fan makes horrible noises when the a/c is on. Is this normal or is something gonna break?

ahh the infamous aux-fan. mine is completely seized, up where i live we only have 3-4 months of hot weather so it really doesnt bother me. however its good to get your aux fan fixed if you plan to use your a/c at all. im guessing the noise your hearing is it in an early stage of it seizing. its so common that 1 in every 3 seem to cause the main problem with an a/c fault in an early model BMW. what i would do is pull the aux fan out and drill a small hole just off center and use some sort of penatrating lubricant in to free things up. it works believe me . in the dead of summer when i was at the bmw mechnics 20 hours a week, i saw it work every time for that particular problem ( but if your fan is tottally seized its a better bet to just replace the fan)
