Auto Transmission Problems - - HELP

I've got a 320i E36 Auto 1993 and recently the transmission light has appeared after the car warms up (about 20 mins) - but also the car stays in 3rd gear (at least I think it's third - certainly feels like it)

Please help.

wow, same problem I was having with my auto tranny before I did the manual swap. I just had my old auto tranny repaired this week and it ended up being some fried electrical and some busted seals. Cost me about 350 after tax to repair, of course though, the tranny was already out of the car so labor wasn't as bad. let me know if you need a used/good tranny bud :P

The 3rd gear is a safe mode. when the car is in trouble, it switches into safe mode so you cannot hurt the car worse.

we are currently fixing that problem on my girlfriends car. hers turned out to be a bad tranny control box. $600 down the drain..

your car may have different problems, but you need to get it checked out now.
