auto to manual swap.........HELP!!!!

alright, so i lurk in the e30 forum but i have a ? for the e36 fans.......

my fab guy has a lovely auto M3 (got it for a steal before you flame)....and he wants to covert it over to manual.......now i am up to the task, but we need to acculmate a parts list and could require your assistance/knowledge.......so far i know i will need the following:

-trans (duh)
-shifter linkages
-drive shaft
-pedal assembly
-slave cylinder assembly and lines

now am i going to need to swap out the engine ecu? or can i just take it somewhere and have it "retaught" that it's a manual now......or can i just not even worry about it?......assistance please oh lords of the e36'ers

If i'm not mistaken, the tranny has it's own ECU which in most other cars ases that means you'll need a wiring harness and a neww ecu...I did a auto to manual swap on my 97 240sx and dropped an sr20det in it that was previously in my 91, so I did an OBD swap too. and I needed a different drive shaft, tranny harness, ecu, pedal assembly, slave, you'll also need to get clutch, flywheel. but I'm sure your aware of that part. the hardest part was drilling through my firewall for the slave. other then that most mounting points are already on the body, the might need treaded or cleaned but the should already be there. I found that a step bit worked great to get it started, but i heeded a bigger hole so I just kept going bigger with the bits progressivley until I acheived the desired OD. It took me about 4 hours to mount everything up with a friend and by the next day we had the engine in and I was pulling some 3rd gear drifts in the mall parking lot lol man those were the days......

Having done something like this on a different car, I can tell you this much:

Tranny
Flywheel
ECU
Wiring harness (transmission, clutch start)
Slave cylinder and tubing
Clutch pedal

That's about it for now... If I think of more, I'll post them up.
