Just recently noticed a small problem with my auto gearbox, very occasionaly when I drop her into D, I start to depress the accelarator and theres no power there at all, then perhaps a second or two later it will engage and the car will shunt forward.... once its in gear and we're off everything is as it should be.

Any ideas what it could be? first thing i'm going to do is get it to an indy for a transmission fluid change, if thats a non starter then its either replace the trany or have this one overhaulled at a specialists, I have a feeling a recon unit may be cheaper though.

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated. (Car is an E36 318i se)

does it shift hard.. or is a smooth.. does this happen to any other gears.. or just Drive!

low on auto oil, it revs then boots into gear and shutters off? and onces it going its fine?? also when u do sharp cornerS?? with a bit of gas, revs, then kicks into gear?? if so its the transmission fluid, usually low or a cracked pan gasket, in my case its leaking from the bellhousing and its not the torque seal :'(

Shifting between gears is smooth, the drive is lovely, its just takeing off from standstill, which I only tend to do in D.

I think the general consensus of opinion is that its probably related to the torq converter (lack of fluid) and to get the transmission fluid refilled, change the filter and check brake bands and clutches and have them adjusted if nessecary.

I'll get her into a transmission specialist as soon as i can, at least i have more of an idea now (i'm new to automatics).
