As far as BMW doing some kindof special because they had leftover E30 cars is just improbable and wrong. Car companies make so many cars and sell them to dealers and such almost immediately. They would not sell 2 different cars as the same year.
The whole 1999 convertibles coming out in a year instead of two doesn't mean anything. A company does not follow a certain timeline for releasing things. They design and release new models on sales, technology increases, and changing markets. Trust me I have a Marketing degree.
I just looked at kbb.com and it shows the picture of the car for each year.
