TCM = transmission control module, right? Why would you want to do that? You will need to find out if they used the same transmission. Wasn't the 320i a 6-cyl? They about the same output, so I wouldn't be surprised if BMW used teh same part for both.

I am confused regarding what you expect to gain from this?

B/c

320I is a 6 cyl, however the 318 is a 4cyl so it is possible there might be a problem but since they're both 3 series i'm hoping they are the same part!!!The reason why is b/c just recently my TCM light in the instrument panel came on and i am not sure how much it would cost me to fix it...i read on one post that it can be reset/reprogrammed within 15 min...i any case if it is unfixable and if they tell me that i will need a new TCM then at least i have another option of swapping this one with the broken one... i asked the dealer and the cost of a new TCM is CAN$1800 +tax...compare to the one in the picture that i got from a salvage yard which i got for CAN$5...

I don't understand what you are trying to do. Please answer the following questions:

(1) Do you own a 320i?
(2) Do you own a 318i?
(3) Are you planning to install the TCM from your original post on a 318i?
(3) Are you planning to install the TCM from your original post on a 320i?

I own a 320I with a bad TCM...i got this part from a 318 off of a salvage yard and i was thinking of putting this one on my 320I...however i just finished checking what i have and it is a different TCM so i can't use this one...good thing i only got it for $5...oh well i guess back to my original plan which is to get my 320I TCM reprogrammed...
