Just joined up today after searching around the net looking for something and came across your forum, looks pretty neat.

hmm 540 engine in a 318?

i always thought the first number represents the series and the last two the size of the engine...
that 318 thumbnail pic puzzled me cuz it said 340i... does 540s engines say 340? and if so why?
am i compeletely going nuts?
no, 540 engines don't say 340, i guessing he comstom made the engine to say 340 because he took a 318 and put a 540 engine in it creating a 340i. that is pretty sweet going from a 1.8 I4 to a 4.4 V8

we haven't heard anything official yet though, but that does looks sweet as hell. Thats some sick power. Why didn't BMW ever actually do that? Where is Frank De Jonge at now? He had a friend that was dropping an e39 M5 engine into an e36 318iS body...that was wicked. Its my desktop picture right now

The car (in the picture) is a 92 318is with an engine out of an E34 540LE a limited edition 540 that was delivered to Australia while we waited for the E34 M5, not sure if it was delivered else where though. It also has the 6 speed manual box that came with the engine and a diff from a 6 cyl after blowing up the 4 cyl one. Ill see if i can dig up an article that was published in a magazine about it if anyone is intrested.
Thanks for the welcome ppl.
