can a faulty alternator drain the power out of your battery - even if the car is stood still?

i charged my battery - put it on the car and left the car for a few hours - came back and the battery was flat again

Rich - how old is this battery - it sounds like the cells may have "collapsed" - or you have lost the electrolyte solution in it or the solution needs topping up - is it a sealed unit?

If you have trickle charged it using an external source and it is flat again that quickly then it sounds like the battery isnt holding its charge

May need replacing

i dont think so???? sounds strange, did u leave anything on???? if the car is on they yes it can, but off??? prolly not. maybe there is a short in the system to do that or maybe the battery is just really dead. it sucks, but it happens, when its really dead, it is really dead.

well i've had the car fully checked out and they found it to be the alternator - just cost me £410 for it replacing $750!

!!!!!!!???????????!!!!!!!!! man u need to do that type of repair yourself!!!!! it is pretty easy and takes about a half hour.

There is a write up on how to do it... on pelicanparts.com search it.. its a lot easier that way... and cheaper...
