alright so im in a bind. i have a 95 318i with 150xxx on it and i got some leaks in my engine and bad ball joint. i have gotten both looked at and looks like about 1500 for the leaks and about 300 for the ball joint. now i only paid 3000 for this car is it worth getting fixed or should i try selling it. i love the car and would love to keep it just dont know if its worth the money.
hmmm 300 for balljoints sounds expensive, however routine maintainance, as for the leaks , what exactly is leaking? maybe we can save you a few bucks if you let us know whats leaking ( but for 1500 sounds like a headgasket or something)
If you have major leaks, then it will be hard to honestly sell the car. If you were to sell it and buy something like a 325i you would be out a lot of money. If the leak isn't too bad, just drive it. Keep oil in your trunk and an eye on your oil level. The ball joint, fix it if you are going to keep the car. You will not get enough for the car to justify selling it upgrade to something else unless you do so dishonestly, ie. try to hide the leak ect. But if you dont have a problem with that, just don't sell it to a forums member and good luck.
I would agree, if you are concerned about the money, then it's not worth it.
I KNOW my car is a money pit, that's what I bought it for.
I think you would be surprised at how cheap things get when you do it yourself.

furious it would need new head gasket set new oil pan gasket and a Crancase gasket or something along that line? i know the gaskets are cheap but im hoping i can find a guy who will do it on the side. if anyone knows anyone in cincinnati that will help thanks guys for all ur input.
Try and do the work yourself. Doing a headgasket is probably the most complex task that you will ever have to face with your car.. that said, if you do end up doing it, any future problems will seem like a peice of cake.
Good luck man, shitty situation. I personally would attempt the HG job.
