I thought I read not too long ago a thread or an FAQ that indicated the best ways to tell if your BMW was equiped with an alarm.
I did a search and it came up empty. (well, 2 hits, neither what I was looking for.) Anyone remember where that thread is, or can tell me some deifinitive ways to tell if I have an alarm installed.
I have an E36, no red light under rear view mirror. Although I do have a tiny light right beside the radio volume knob. (That led is not the radio anti theft light.)
my LED isn't under the rear view mirror and I have an alarm...my light is on the panel where the seat warmer buttons would be...just above the shifter...

your little red L.E.D should be next to the traction control button, next to seat warmers ect... if u wanna test, either check your siren under the hood, OR, open your windows, lock your car, wait about 30 seconds.. and unlock your door through the upen window... if the alarm does sound, then its time to put a new alarm in,
GOOD LUCK
I don't have a red light on the console beside the seat warmer switches, and I don't see any sign of a siren under the hood. I guess that makes me 90% sure I don't have one.
Sorry guys, I didn't break the window for the final test. You'll have to just imagine that.
