Alarm Problem

Cant figure out whats wrong with the alarm on my e36 m3 1999. When i try to lock the doors with the standard bmw alarm it wont lock, lock the doors with the key and then use the remote and it unlocks the doors

When you get into the car and shut the drivers door the locks make noise as if they are trying to lock but nothing happens other than the LED flashes until you get out of the car. If you get out of the car with the ignition running and the lights flashing for the alarm the alarm goes mental

can someone please explain whats going on or have they heard of any problems with these standard bmw alarms

thanks in advance

mark

my opinion is simply that car alarms in general are useless and never work right.

i always hear them going off, and always it has been an accident. so from that i can figure that car alarms dont work right (why would they go off if the owner is getting in their car) and they are useless because they go off at the wrong time SOO much that no one pays attention when they go off. isnt that the whole point? to draw attention to a car being stolen?
