Whenever I start my car the airbag light stays on for atleast 5 minutes, it's not a big deal to me but I just want to know if this is normal or not. And if it isnt, how to fix it.

It's a common failure on the e36. The metal contact ring behind the airbag breaks. I think the dealer fixes it for free if you take it in used

I'm used to that. Most of the time it is not related to airbag problem.

Buy Peake R5/SRS Airbag Scan/Reset Tool ($130) at www.peakeresearch.com. I'd buy it if it is tiresome when my friends who drive my car ask repeatedly.

its not free (unless its got a CPO and/or extended warranty) but it only costs around 15-30 depending on the dealer.

The SRS airbag light can also be caused by a faulty seat belt switch...that's what I read from other forums and from my own personal experience. The dealer fixed the switch and reset the SRS airbag light for me.

All low voltage circuit sensors are very sensitive to resistance levels. Before you replace any sensors. Try cleaning off the sensor connector with a zero residue electrical contact cleaner. BMW recommends that you coat both connectors with a product called Stabilant 22A before reconnecting. This will keep future deposits from forming on the connection. Good luck.

Try this: http://www.carsoftinternational.com/screenbmw.htm

Chip your engine with this software, read out engine/airbag faults etc......
