Airbag light stays on

My airbag light stays on. I think I may need a new front sensor - anyone know anything about this? Is it easy to fix? Should I take to the dealer to fix? Is it expensive? Thx.

What happened that caused the light to turn on? Did you change your sterring wheel or something? It may be something as simple as having the code reset instead of changing the sensor.

I actually am having the same problem in my e46, I posted a message I believe...My interior got wet, and mine has been on ever since...stealer wants 90 to run a test alone

some independent shops have the tool to reset it. i changed a steering wheel so im used to it...but my airbag is connected its just the light is on but it will still deploy

Is it the SRS light? In my 92 325i the light was on when i bought it from the other owner. It turned out that it needed a new box spring, ( i think thats what its called but ill double check)and the parts and labor was like 400 dollars! BMW dealerships really know how to rape you up the ass.

my 94' 325i air bag light turned on after i killed the battery listening to music while washing my car (i learnned my lesson)....stealer wants 120 to run test....its not that serious....i've seen what happened to people who were "saved" from air bags....they got all kinds of rub burns all over there face...now there hideous

Take it to the dealer and reset the airbag light (5-10$). If it comes back on, it must be the sensor (the code reader for SRS system will tell you exactly which sensor it is). Replacing the passenger-seat sensor under the seat is a lengthy procedure, involving seat cover removal, etc, etc. Approx 200 bucks. Try to find non-authorised BMW repair shop in your area who know what they are doing yet don't charge you exorbitant hourly rates. If there is SRS light, airbag system will most likely be deactivated - so don't crash when you drive around with it

Thanks! I'll take it to a reputable independend BMW repair shop. I know a few here in Houston. I think it may be the left front sensor - had a fender bender there before and was repaired. Bags did not deploy - wasn't enough impact to deploybut may have messed up the sensor up there.

I have found a chap who supplies replacement switches that turn the light off permanently. you don't even need to strip the seat to replace it. Just cut the wires to the old switch and wire in a matchbox size box unit he supplies.
It comes with all the instructions (really simple-even I could fit it).

All the original (troublesome) switch does- is weigh the passenger. If the passenger weighs less than 40kgs the airbag on passenger side is de-activated. The old switch gives endless problems and are often damaged by children standing on the seat- it is also damaged through routine wear and tear. The stealerships want up to $600 with their labor to replace the part.
