Air Con Faulty

Hi, I have just bought a BMW 318Si 1998 Coupe and the AC works only sometimes. It will sometimes atart then blow for maybe 3-5 mins then cut out and will not come back on for a while then sometimes just starts blowing again. Has anybody else had same problem and if so what was wrong please. Thanks in advance

are you sure the cabin blower is not at fault?

If you suspect you Air conditioning unit, possible cause/s:

1) lack of freon in system,
2) faulty receiver/drier,
3) moisture/air in your A/C system.

*dunno what your level of DIY savvy is, but if you are doing this on your own, someone here will gladly walk you through CORRECT diagnostics.

I think you have a common problem...my control would go dim or off and then would come back on again. There's a problem with a little transistor in the system. You can send it to some guys in Idaho (I think) on ebay. I got mine fixed in a week for $45.
