Abs Light On My E36 318i

Hi, Im new to this forum, but nay help would be very much appreciated.

I have just had my front brake pads replaced, also the rear wheel cylinders were replaced at the same time, I had a brake fluid top up and the car was given back to me.. The problem I have is the ABS light comes on when you first turn the ignition on and does not go away, the ABS does NOT work, I've tried the old trick of driving along ast 20-30mph on a dirt track type road, slamming the brakes on and all I end up doing in skidding for miles!.

However, If I turn thye ignition off and on again 9/10 the ABS light will go away, although it might come back on when I'm driving, the ABS then works perfectly, I get the old steerting wheel judder as the brakes un-lock.

Does anyone know what this might be? it went in working fine, it came out not working, didn't take the car to a main dealer to be done, cant afford the prices!!. It seems odd that by turning the ignition off and back on again the light goes out.

Im thinking maybe the ABS needs to be reset??? Im not sure, somebdoy please help.

There is a sensor by the brakes that could have possibly been damaged when the brakes were done....

Is the sensor near the front or rear brakes? or both?
