Abs Light On '96 328i

My ABS system isn't working (ABS light on in dash).. mechanic suggests it might need new ABS control valve assembly, very expensive. But, I've also read a faulty pump relay can disable the system & cause the ABS light to stay on. Which is the pump relay? The one the dealer calls "cycle relay" or "main relay".. and the part number.. ? Many thanks

Are you sure the ABS isn't working? The light can come on if there is a simple (and common ) sensor problem in the seat belt recepticle. I think there are both DIY's and info on this problem if you do a search. Good Luck

Also, do you know how to check if your ABS is working? I've just gone to dirt road/loose gravel area and then jammed brakes on at 20-30mph, and if you get the pulsating upon loss of traction, then your ABS works. :P
