abs and asc lights on

hey, im new to this site. i hav a 99 318is and both the abs and asc lights came on recently, occasionally when i break i can hear a kind of grinding/groaning sound from the brakes but both the pads and discs are in good health... any ideas as to the problem and potential cost?

Welcome........... I had this a few months ago, turned out to be one of the 4 speed sensors....trick is, finding which one.......you need this very expensive abs diagnostics machine, so I had to bring it in to the $tealership, paid a $125.00 diagnostic fee, they told me which one it was, offered to replace it for $350.00, I said no thanks.......ordered it for about $90.00 on-line & replaced it myself.......also when both the asc & abs lights are on, both traction control & anti-lock braking are disabled......

p.s. If you bring it in to the Dealer, be wary if they try to sell you shit that the abs control unit is bad, then we're talking $$ thousands $$.
