98 m3 wheel size

I'm looking to buy some new rims for my car, Preferably 17".
If I am to put 8" wide rims all around (since thats what most seam to be) will it affect my handling at all since the OE rims are 7.5" front 8" rear?

I also have absolutely no idea about what bolt pattern, offset, bore and what other numbers I need. If someone could help me with those numbers and any other important ones it would be appreciated.
