I have a 97 318is with 107k. It is jerking when I come out of the hole and also when I am on it, shifting into 2nd. The colder it is out, when I first start the vehicle the worse it is. And no the jerking does not go away when the car is up to temp. It is just a little better when up to temp. I was told that I had a bad clucth. So I bit the bullet and had that changed. I replaced both O2 sensors, air filter, fuel filter, plugs, temp sensor, plus other parts that have nothing to do with the driveline. From time to time it throws a code P0442 which is small emmissions control leak. Don't know if this has anything to do with it? The clutch is definately not slipping when this happens because when this happens it is cruel and unusual punishment for any passengers ! Ignition? Emitions? Fuel/air delivery?Much thanks for any knowledgeable help.

Found out what the deal was on this. Just a simple tear in the air intake duct after the MAF. This was allowing unmetered air to get to engine and inturn leaning itself out and causing a stall and go. Tape will fix this until you can (I) get the part.
