97 318is climate control problem

I have a 97 318is. The problem started shortly after i purchased the car. Right before summer the a/c stopped working. The clutch on the compressor is free. I noticed when driving with the cruise control on that the car seemed to pulse. It turns out that the compressors is turning on and off every few seconds.....very annoying. There is enough coolant in the system. Right before the start of winter the climate control unit dimmed and then completely stopped working. The compressor kicks on and off all the time. I disconected the unit to stop the compressor and now the heat is on all the time, which i figure is the default when the unit is not plugged in... it just leaves the heater door open. I have read different threads about it possibly being a transistor. The computer located under the climate control unit is also dimmed. If anyone has some advice i would appreciate it.

1st thing to do is get you A/C regassed/serviced, not diy,but by a proper garage or A/C specialist, and pray your pump hasnt died, then we can go from there.
