95 325i head Question

Hello Everyone
This is my question can you remove the head with the vonos still on?

My book say you need special torque device to tightening the head at 30 foot pounds that seems to be not tight is that right?

Can you use a normal torque wrench ?

You must remove the vanos........ Pelican Technical Article: BMW Head Gasket Replacement

They recommend you use a calibrated torque wrench for sure accurateness....a good quality one

For '91 to '96 models both 4 and 6 cylinder it's:

Stage 1 30Nm 22Ibf ft
Stage 2 Angle tighten a further 90
Stage 3 Angle tighten a further 90

Also, though you may know this, reinstalling the head should always be done with new head bolts.

No, you have to remove the vanos......
Yes....a good click type torque wrench
90 degrees.......

Please don't confuse the terminology either...it is 90 degrees (1/4 turn)...not 90 ft/lbs. The bolts are to be angle tightened after the initial torque spec given earlier (30Nm or 22 ft/lb).
