94 325i

I need some good advice from some of you "pros" out there. My 94 325i just won't start. All it does is crank when I turn the key on the ignition. I took it to a local shop and they are telling me the problem is with the computer, and that it will need to be replace. This sounds expensive; but before I proceed, used I would like to know how can you really tell that's the root cause of the problem. Please advice.

Does it throw any error codes?

If not, there are three avenues that make the engine run:

Air: check the MAF
Spark: Do your plugs spark?
Fuel: Does the fuel pump run?

I would check these things before I shelled out the $$$ for a new ECU.

I would do the same as stated above. You have to have air fuel and spark for the engine to run. if the computer is bad though that is what makes the spark and controls the fuel pump. so it is possible that the computer is bad. even if it isn't pay to have it installed and if it doesn't fix it tell them to remove it.

same thing happend with my car. to fix it i just replaced the fuel pump and the car works fine now.

Thanks you all for your advice. I think I will start with the fuel pump and if the problem persist I will have the computer changed over the wkend.
