92 e36 fault codes? check engine light

Hello I am new to the e36 model my BMW experiance comes from e30's. today my 1992 325 had the check engine light come on still runs the same and I have 1 more green bar on the service light. on my e30 I could turn the ignition off then on but not start and push the throttle 5 times and I would get a code. tried on this and it gave me a 1 2 2 don't know what it means or how to even know if that way works on an e36 any help would be great

The pedal trick works on early (thru 1995) E36s. However, all the codes should be four digits. If you're getting a 1222, then it is just an oxygen sensor.
